ORANGE PARK, FL: Some County Officials are a little pissed about new gambling laws and the explosion of poker in Florida.

On Sept. 4, the Orange Park Town Council granted Jacksonville Greyhound Racing Inc.’s request to open a card room at the long-established dog track on U.S. 17. After more than two hours of public comments in a heated, standing-room only meeting, the vote was 3-2.”

Still peeved about a poker room coming to Orange Park’s dog track, County Commissioner George Bush wants to make things a little harder for future gambling operations to set up shop in Clay County.

State law requires voter approval before new gambling facilities can be established in any Florida county. But Bush is pushing for an ordinance that would require voter approval in Clay County even if the legislature changes the current law.”
