HENDERSON, NV: For the past several months any visit to the poker room at Green Valley Ranch has led to a conversation with the room manager that always ends with: “Keep an eye on our tournament schedule.” Indeed, they have been adding tournaments on a regular basis at GVR since they decided to get on the tournament bandwagon. Green Valley Ranch: HORSE Tournament

HENDERSON, NV: Poker tournaments at Green Valley Ranch in Henderson were nothing to talk about for the first three years of the casino. Green Valley simply did not have tournaments and they made a big deal about not having tournaments, not wanting tournaments and not planning to have tournaments in the future.

Well just a few short months ago in December, the powers that be in casino management at Green Valley decided to relent and give the poker room a shot at increasing revenue by running a new, limited tournament schedule. The events were an immediate success, so much so that in February they added a Ladies event and now they are adding a HORSE tournament.

The new HORSE Event is on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. The buy-in is $40 with a $5 add-on. Players start with 1,500 in chips and receive 500 more for the add-on. The games are the standard HORSE line-up: Texas Hold’em, Omaha/8, Razz, 7-card Stud, 7-Stud/8. All the games are played limit betting and the limits increase with the game change.

HENDERSON, NV: The poker room at Green Valley Ranch in Henderson has begun offering a Ladies Only event every Sunday. Alot of rooms have tried this type of promotion but early numbers suggest the idea may actually work at at Green Valley.

Green Valley is one of the Station Casino properties that ring the Las Vegas area. All of the Stations are off-strip and cater to a greater extent to “local” players. Of the poker rooms I have played in Las Vegas and the Henderson suburb, what stands out about Green Valley is the large number of female players. So, it would seem only natural to give the Ladies Tournament a shot. Two tables the first week and three this past Sunday suggest that this might be able to catch on and become part of the permanent schedule.

The event begins at 11 a.m., with 30 minute rounds, and the buy-in is $50 with a little twist; if you bust out in the first hour, you can enter again for another $50.

Omaha Poker Tournaments in Las Vegas: Green Valley Ranch

LAS VEGAS, NV. The Green Valley Ranch Resort Poker Room has Omaha tournaments every Monday and Thursday evenings. Monday it’s Hi Lo Split (8 or better), on Thursday Omaha high. Start time both nights is 7PM with registration starting an hour earlier at 6PM. $40 buy-in for a 1500 starting stack, $5 for an additional 500. Blinds start at 25-50 and double every half hour and both tournaments are pot limit. There are 10 minute breaks after the 4th and 8th level and alternates are allowed for the first 45 minutes. The pay-out structure is 40%-%30-%20-%10, winner to be paid in chips. Of the $40 buy-in $32 goes to the prize pool, $8 to the administration fees, $5 re-buys go to the tournament staff.
